THE ENSEMBLE FOR BULGARIAN FOLK DANCES “HORO” - from CHICAGO
was founded in 2003 by Irina Gotcheva and Todor Gotchev who to this day are its artistic directors. Irina graduated from the State School of Choreography in Sofia and from The Academy for Music and Dance in Plovdiv. She has worked as a ballet master and choreographer of Ensemble “Sliven” in Bulgaria. Todor is a master of the Tracian dance style and for years was the soloist of Ensemble “Sliven”.
To the delight of the Bulgarian community in Chicago, Irina and Todor continued their creative work on American land, dedicating a lot of time and energy to building an ensemble which today prides itself in a very large and diverse repertoire.
Currently the ensemble has close to 40 members
– women and men, teenagers included, united in their love for the Bulgarian folk dance. Depending on experience, everyone is welcome – as a beginner or intermediate dancer, or in the advanced group which every season works on a new original dance composition.
Ensemble Horo presents dances from all major ethnographic areas of Bulgaria – Severniashka, Trakiiska, Shopska, Dobrudjanska, Pirinska and Rodopska to the sound of pure folk music. Our dancers are dressed in a variety of colorful traditional costumes. MORE READ ON: www.horochicago.com |

THE BOSILEK BULGARIAN FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE was founded in New York City in 1979 by Bulgarian choreographer Liliana Tudorova Budy and 4 American women. During our 32-year history, more than 80 women of different ethnic backgrounds and professions have been members of the group. The ensemble has participated in festivals throughout the Northeastern U.S., and has performed in local events at libraries and street fairs, as well as at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and the garden of the White House in Washington, D.C. We have also taken part in folk festivals in Bulgaria and appeared on Bulgarian television. The diversity of our backgrounds has united the members of the ensemble |
| in one goal – to show the beauty and richness of the Bulgarian folklore to the American public. Our choreographer since 1995 has been Iliana Bozhanova of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The dances Ms. Bozhanova creates for BOSILEK are based on the specific folk horos and ruchenitsas of the different ethnographic regions of Bulgaria. Our music is traditional, arranged especially for BOSILEK by Lyuben Dossev, Todor Yankov and other musician friends in Bulgaria. Since 1981, Cathie Springer, one of the founders of Bosilek, has been the artistic director of the BOSILEK. She is a graduate of the School for Leaders of Amateur Ensembles in Plovdiv.
