Elena Koleva and Fifth Season Quartet are returning to The LiyPad Gallery for a set of originally arranged jazz and eastern european folklore themes.

The team of musicians is a mix of unique instrumentalists with a rich multicultural background presenting a bright palette of contemporary styles.

Elena Koleva has appeared as a soloist in multiple jazz projects with artists such as Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Moses, Bruce Gertz, Gene Perla, Mike Tucker, Theodosii Spassov and Fifth Season Quartet. She has also participated in established jazz festivals, TV shows and theater performances in Europe and the United States. Locally Elena has performed at venues such as the Berklee Performance Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Jordan Hall, Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, The Lily Pad, Beehive, Les Zygomates and many others.In the late 90’s, Elena has released two solo albums with the Acoustic Version Trio–Round Midnight (1995) and Invisible Touch (1998) and has appeared as a guest singer and co-arranger in a number of albums and projects including “Cari Peno Jazztet” featuring saxophonist Mike Tucker, Plamen Karadonev’s debut album “Crossing Lines” (2008) and co-producing Fifth Season Quartet with their newest album “Beyond Hope”(2014). Elena has studied with outstanding musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Moses, Charlie Benacos, George Garzone, Dominique Eade and Ken Schaphorst. She is also a faculty at the Berklee College Summer Program.

PLAMEN KARADONOEV (www.plamenkaradonev.com)
Pianist Plamen Karadonev is originally from Bulgaria. Since his teenage years Plamen has participated at a number of jazz festivals and concerts and during his studies at The State Academy Of Music, Sofia, he was a principal pianist of the Bulgarian National Radio Big Band.In 2001 Plamen moved to Boston after accepting a scholarship from Berklee College of Music and soon after completing his performance degree, he recorded his first solo album of originals with a team of jazz masters such as Hal Crook George Garzone, Lee Fish, Austin McMahon, Kendal Eddy with a guest singer Elena Koleva. His debut album Crossing Lines received national and international recognition among jazz critics and musicians.In the latest release of the album “Beyond Hope” with Fifth Season Quartet and special guest Jerry Bergonzi, Plamen Karadonev performs both as a pianist and accordionist. Plamen has shared the stage with some of the most respected musicians on the current jazz scene including Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman, Gene Perla, Jimmy Cobb, John Lockwood, Richie Barshay and many more.

Charles Overton (charlesovertonmusic.com) is a Boston-based harpist engaged in regular performances of classical, jazz and world music.

Charles is student at the Berklee College of Music, pursuing a major in music performance where he performs regularly as a member of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. He has had the opportunity to perform with several notable Boston-based orchestras such as the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and the Video Game Orchestra, and he served for two years as harpist with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, led by Maestro Benjamin Zander. He is currently studying harp under the tutelage of both Felice Pomeranz and Jessica Zhou.
